Sharjah Police in Kalba arrested eight drivers for reckless driving and exposing others to danger.
Major Rashid Al Zaabi, Director of Kalba Police Station said that reckless drivers spotted driving recklessly on squires and residential areas causing disturbance and threatening safety of the residents and motorists in the emirate.
The arrest was made after police received complaints from people about the motorists performing dangerous stunts on the road.
He said that the police was working on introducing strong procedures against those who cause serious accidents leading to death and loss of property, from failing to follow traffic laws and road rules.
Driving records of reckless drivers and those who caused deaths will be checked. The new, stricter penalties would include revoking the driver's license permanently and doubling the vehicles' confiscation periods.
Major Al Zaabi said police in the area had already launched massive efforts to reduce accidents by spreading awareness.
