The festive season is all about great dishes, large platters, and bigger appetites. If you're bored of serving (and being served) the oh-so-boring snacks, then we've put together some offbeat cooking and presentation ideas.
Canapé Chaat
Chaat in a bowl is passé; serve it on a canapé instead. Experiment with sprouts or kala chana. A dash of mint and tamarind chutney can do the trick. Else opt for Kala Namak (rock salt) or a drizzle of lemon juice.
Pav Bhaji Fondue
Melted cheese and chocolate is boring, try the desi fondue. Is simple - instead of marshmallows on the skewer, you go in for tiny pavs! Strawberry bites can make way for chopped onions.
Aloo Pie
It's the next best thing after Aloo Puri. You need to stuff the dry spicy, potato preparation into the pie and bake it. No one can have just one!
Spring Roll Dosas
They're the usual stuffed dosas - except that you'd be stuffing them with spring roll filling - carrots, onions, bean sprouts, and cabbage. A spoon of soy sauce or the Thai sweet sour will only enhance the dish. Keep the dosa size tiny.
Curry Lentil Dip
Bored of Hummus? Make a lentil dip and serve with naan bites or pita bread, if you please. Use red beans or lentils. And don't forget to add dry chilies and amchoor powder to it.
