According to a senior official, the bays, totalling 40 metres in length, will be constructed in collaboration with the Department of Public Works, Sharjah Municipality and the mall management.

Abdulaziz Al Jarwan

Corporation Assistant Director-General for Operations Abdulaziz Al Jarwan said Darwish Engineering Company, assigned to complete the project, will start the work next week. The bays will be completed before the holy month of Ramadan.

Two points would be designated for taking passengers and dropping them on Bus Route No. X8 which starts from Al Rolla area.

“The project is aimed to ease traffic flow for the mall visitors in a positive reponse to the public (demand),” he said, noting that a pedestrian crossing shall also be built there for people’s safety.

Projects Manager at Sharjah Transport Ahmed Al Waqad said the corporation had already built 22 cab bays across Sharjah city.

“Eight cab bays, spacious for three taxis each, have been built on the Waset road, apart from some bays opposite the Sharjah Cooperative Society - Helwan branch, Sharjah Traffic department, Culture Roundabout — each with enough space for five cabs.“These bays will provide proper parking spaces for cabs, which otherwise move around and suddenly stop at non-designated spots, committing traffic law violations.”

Earlier. Abdullah Al Zari, Director-General of the Sharjah Transport, had said they had provided 132 of the 540 bus stops planned across the emirate.
