Policemen on horseback in Abu Dhabi handled to 8,796 cases last year. The Abu Dhabi Police said that their Mounted Police Patrols Section dispatched 3,650 patrols and secured 16 events in 2020.

The patrols offered assistance to residents when needed; patrolled residential neighbourhoods and other locations that are not accessible by the ordinary police patrols.

This unit ensures rapid response to crime reports and helps ensure safety.


Horseback patrols were first introduced in 1974 in the Capital, but the unit was withdrawn in 2006. It made a comeback after a 10-year gap in 2016.
