The new building will have more departments and facilities and will be located near the new Kalba lagoon, according to Obaid Saeed bin Fraish, Director General of Kalba Hospital.

"Due to a big increase in the number of patients visiting the hospital from different areas in Kalba and Oman, doctors are facing a tough time. To overcome this problem the UAE Ministry of Health has decided to construct a new hospital with a greater capacity to accommodate patients," Mr Bin Fraish said.

Dr Abdul Rahman Mustafa, the hospital's medical director, explained: "The new hospital will offer the best medical service to patients and will have the most advanced medical equipment installed including MRI and CT scan machines for the radiology department.

"The new building will include a department for diagnosing and treating kidney ailments, a facility that was not available at the old hospital. Six dialysis machines will be among the new equipment installed." Dr Mustafa added that a new department for endoscopic and laproscopic surgeries will start operation at the new hospital.

Mr Bin Fraish said: "We are living in an era where a positive development in various fields is crucial to make a better and safer life for people. Our main objective as one team at the hospital is to serve the health needs of our patients and guarantee that the best services are offered to them."

He said the positive development at the hospital is a dream come true for the people of Kalba as they really needed a fully-equipped hospital offering a large number of medical services.

Due to the small number of services being offered at the old hospital, people have been forced to seek medical care at other hospitals, but Bin Fraish stressed that as soon as the new departments open the people of Kalba will prefer to be treated at their own hospital.

"Due to the unavailability of particular specialisations or medical equipment at Kalba Hospital, we were forced to transfer a number of patients to other hospitals but now with the introduction of the new departments, we will manage to treat people at the hospital without the need to transfer them," Bin Fraish said.
