Shaikh Sultan stressed the high value and deep impression of photographs and their key role in documenting various aspects of life, be it in culture, science or history.

He also appreciated the APA’s efforts to foster a new generation of creative and passionate Arab photographers.

Shaikh Sultan made his remarks as he attended a glittering event held by the Sharjah Forum for Arab Photography at the University of Sharjah auditorium to recognise creative Emiarti, Arab and foreign photographers who won the Sharjah Photography Award.

Shaikh Sultan honoured Shaikha Al Suwaidi, known as the mother of Emirati photographers, who started her career in 1950s and played a valuable role in documenting local life in the UAE.

A documentary on her life and how she challenged social barriers to become a professional photographer, was screened during the ceremony.

Later, the Ruler opened an exhibition of the Sharjah Photography Award entries. —
