The talent show, which involved students from Year 7 to Year 13, invited contributions from students, parents, friends and family members.

Helping raise funds to feed over 7,000 beneficiaries in the Horn of Africa, the money will contribute to the World Food Programme.

This was the 2nd Annual Talent Show on the DIA campus, located in Emirates Hills. The event attracted a large audience. It was a showcase of talent with students presenting classical and rock instrumental music, original compositions, interspersed with songs, dances and drama skits in colourful costumes to enthral the audience.

“We are very fortunate to enjoy all the facilities and resources. But that shouldn’t keep us away from the realities of the less fortunate ones and the most vulnerable nations around us. To raise awareness about the same, we organised a fun event where students through their ambitions and talents could raise funds and contribute to the one of the most important Millennium Development Goals, eradicating extreme hunger and poverty,” said Robin Wirz, from Year 13, one of the student judges at the event.

The World Food Programme was represented by Ashraf Hamouda, Head of Partnerships and Business Development Middle East, North Africa & Gulf region, who received the donation at the conclusion of the event.

“We are extremely grateful for the DIA’s ability to mobilise their resources to stand by the WFP in combating hunger wherever it exists, along with YUM! Brands Inc. I was extremely proud to watch a group of talented students compete and perform in support of our programmes. Feeding the mind and soul are just as important as feeding the body,” said Hamouda, upon receiving the life-size cheque from the Secondary School principal David Impey.

He continued: ‘The initiative is inspiring students across the region to mobilise and showcase the power of youth in eliminating hunger. It proves that a little can go a long way. Where there is a will and good intentions, big accomplishments come easily. As little as 50 cents is enough to feed a mother or a child in the Horn of Africa.”

In his closing statements, Impey said, “The DIA is very proud to have contributed to such a noble cause, showing the true spirit of an international school by supporting the UN in its drive to support the underprivileged communities across the globe.”

The event also encompassed an exhibition, showcasing works and projects on natural disasters by Year 9 students.
