The move is aimed at providing every Emirati home with a library of books to promote a culture of reading in the UAE society.
Shaikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organising Committee of KWB, said: “With the distribution of these books to Emirati families in Khorfakkan, the project would cover the Eastern Region where 13,000 families will benefit from the initiative.
“The project will continue to distribute books to Emirati families in the Central Region where 11,000 home libraries will be distributed, and a number of activities and workshops will run alongside the distribution of books in order to enhance the culture of reading in each Emirati family.”
Rashid Al Kous, KWB project manager, said: “The books selected for distribution cover a range of genres and topics that vary from religion to science and health, as well as fictional novels and children’s story books that were carefully chosen to cater to various ages and interests as well as to meet the intellectual needs of each family.”
Rashid continued: “The project reflects the keen interest and high sense of responsibility shown by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah towards mankind and the importance of the culture and reading in developing the people of the emirates.” He urged beneficiary families to take special care of these books, to keep updating their home libraries with new books, and to expand their knowledge by reading these valuable books.
The Knowledge without Borders initiative was launched in November 2008 with the aim of establishing a library in each Emirati house by providing the families with selected collections of valuable Arabic books that cover various topics, with a total of 42,000 families across the emirate of Sharjah set to benefit from the initiative.
