In the first case, a mentally disturbed Arab man allegedly killed his father, while just 25 days later a GCC citizen allegedly stabbed his wife to death. Both the alleged murders were committed with kitchen knives.

Colonel Dr Rashid Bu Rasheed, Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Abu Dhabi Police, said police rushed to the scene of both crimes in time to arrest the suspects.

The mentally disturbed man was taken to a psychiatric hospital in the Capital, where he was medically examined and hospitalised, while the second suspect was remanded in police custody. Investigations to determine the motives behind both the crimes are ongoing.

Colonel Bu Rasheed said the first victim’s 30-year-old son allegedly stabbed his 68-year-old father in the chest with a kitchen knife to death. The incident occurred in the flat where the family lives in Abu Dhabi’s Tourist Club neighbourhood and the police arrested the victim’s son from the same location and confiscated the weapon used in the crime.

According to the information available, the suspect showed signs of mental and nervous disorders that turned him murderous in a flash, Col Bu Rasheed said. The man had been taken to various psychiatrists and psychiatric clinics by his parents.

In the second case, a 47-year-old GCC citizen allegedly killed his 45-year-old wife, also a GCC citizen, by stabbing her multiple times with a kitchen knife.

Colonel Bu Rasheed said police officers, who moved to the scene of the crime swiftly after it was reported, saw a woman lying in a pool of blood inside the bathroom of the couple’s apartment in the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

Police arrested the woman’s husband from the couple’s apartment and also found the knife which was supposedly used in the crime.

The Abu Dhabi CID expressed regret over the occurrence of such crimes, and urged the public to take precautionary measures, and avoid causes of such heinous crimes.
