Brigadier Abdullah Ali Menakhas, director of the criminal investigations department, said they have started tracking down all swindlers on the internet. "Our patrols are surfing the web round the clock to catch suspicious attacks."
The CID is collaborating with different departments to make a success of this critical security programme, he added.
"The media and PR department and the cybercrimes branch of the organised crimes section are involved in the project which is also meant to develop public awareness against online blackmailing."

Recently, the Umm Al Quwain Police have managed to assist 102 people - 70 young women and 32 men, who fell prey to sexual and financial extortion on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat in eight months.
Warning, Brig Menakhas said that communicating with strangers or unreal entities or webpages online is one of the main reasons behind electronic extortion.
"Never ever post or share private information on yourselves on your social media accounts as those scammers can collected these details and pictures to abuse and blackmail their victims."
He urged the public to report any suspicious practices or scams they come across to the law enforcement bodies in the emirate.
"Recently, the online one of those cyber criminals have convinced a young women here to pay him much money to avoid being shamed in public due to private pictures of her she willingly shared with him."
The RAK police, alerted of the incident, tacked down the suspect, arrested him, and referred him to the prosecution for legal action."
The community department of the RAK police has, meanwhile, launched an urgent campaign to enlighten the public about drowning risks.
