An assistant mechanic has been sentenced to three months in jail on the charge of molesting a 14-year-old girl in the lift of the building where she stayed.
The Court of First Instance was earlier told the 28-year-old Pakistani man tried to talk to the girl before groping her suddenly.
The incident was reported on June 19 to Al Muraqqabat police station.
The court also ordered his deportation.
"We received several complaints about molestation incidents targeting teen girls in residential buildings lifts in some areas like Hor al Anz and Riqqa. CCTV camera recordings showed a man stalking the teenagers. We circulated his photo to nab him," a policeman told the prosecutor.
"We went there and as we heard the guard recounting what happened, the suspect happened to walk in on us. He was the same stalking suspect who was caught on surveillance cameras sexually harassing teen girls."
Asked about the reason he was in the building, the accused told the cops he came to fix the air conditioning system at a resident's flat.
"We called after the girl and her father. She identified him immediately. The accused admitted he had touched her inappropriately."
The girl, a student from India, said she took the lift at around 5:30pm on the incident day. "The accused took the lift at the same time with me. I pressed the 3rd floor button while he wanted to go to the second."
The girl told the police the accused asked her whether she is a Pakistani. "He was smiling while staring at my body." She was shocked as he suddenly touched her and then apologized and rushed out.
The accused admitted during investigation that he exited the building through the emergency stairs after the incident.
