The 26-year-old Bangladeshi man was found guilty by the Dubai Court of First Instance of punching the policeman on the face and kicking him in the abdomen on March 19 in Al Barsha.
The court ordered his deportation upon completion of his jail term.
The policeman said the defendant looked drunk when he was brought to him for interrogation at the criminal investigation department. "He was booked for causing disturbance during an event in the Media City. I told another cop to remove his handcuffs out of concern he might hurt himself because he looked heavily drunk. As I was busy writing down his statement, I was surprised as he took off his shirt, reeking of alcohol, and threw it at me."
He continued: "As I stood up and went to him asking him why he did so, he punched and kicked me. I called for help and other officers from the department came in and handcuffed the accused."
The defendant admitted during the public prosecution investigation to the charges of consuming alcohol and assaulting a policeman.
Two other police officers testified they witnessed the accused assaulting their colleague. Both said they took the defendant away from the complainant as he was assaulting him.
