The UAE has administered 160,165 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the past 24 hours.
The country's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said the total doses administered now stands at 7.9 million. This takes the rate of doses per 100 people to 80.4.
As far as taking painkillers before or after a Covid-19 vaccine is concerned, doctors have advised people to not take them before a shot to try to prevent symptoms, but if your doctor agrees, it’s OK to use them afterward if needed.
The concern about painkillers is that they might curb the very immune system response that a vaccine aims to spur.
Vaccines work by tricking the body into thinking it has a virus and mounting a defense against it. That may cause temporary arm soreness, fever, muscle aches or other symptoms of inflammation — signs the vaccine is doing its job.
Some research suggests that certain painkillers including ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin and other brands) might diminish the immune system’s response. A study on mice suggests these drugs might lower production of antibodies, which block the virus from infecting cells.
Abu Dhabi has also launched a new initiative whereby senior citizens and residents can now receive Covid-19 jabs at home.
The home vaccination service is aimed at prioritising the protection of the vulnerable in the society.
Eligible citizens and residents in the UAE capital can book the home vaccination service by calling Seha’s toll-free number 800 50.
