Bebo snubs the Bachchans

IIFA in Bangkok saw the junior Bachchans in a generous mood, trying to make up with all their long-time enemies. But Kareena apparently stuck to her Kapoor legacy and turned them down.

APPARENTLY, ASH and Abhishek decided to throw an impromptu party one morning at 3.00am, to which they invited Kareena. It was Abhi who called her as if they were the best of buddies and nothing had ever gone wrong between them. But Kareena thumbed the party down, preferring instead to stick with Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra and the gang.

Too much has happened between the Bachchans and the Kapoors for Kareena to forget in a hurry.

To recall where it all began, when the KarismaAbhishek engagement broke, Kareena was sad and still tried to show loyalty to her then friend Abhishek, who she respected a lot. But all her attempts at the time to contact Bachchan Jr.

were met with silence and Kareena withdrew.

In her very frank manner, she had even blurted out on Karan Johar’s ‘Koffee with Karan’: “I don’t know why I am bearing the Bachchans’ brunt!” This remark cost her a Karan Johar film, thanks to Abhishek’s wrath at the said comment.

Kareena, who had earlier walked out of Kal Ho Na Ho, was excited to be signing a Dharma Productions’ venture produced by Karan and directed by Tarun Mansukhani. But Abhishek (to be signed in the male lead) said he wouldn’t do the film if Kareena was in it. Instead, he apparently insisted that Karan sign on Ash in Karee na’s place and the latter was out...

Time did come for the tables to turn when sometime later, Kareena turned down Apoorva Lakhia’s offer to star opposite Abhishek! Story goes that Abhishek had given a nod to the film; apparently he was in the mood to forgive Kareena.

But Kareena begged out saying she was uncomfortable working with Abhishek.

This was a sad professional break, considering Abhishek and Kareena made their debut together in Refugee and then appeared together in Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. A source close to Kareena says, “After that, lots of producers tried to cast them together but Abhishek saw to it that Kareena was never a part of any film he worked in until the Apoorva Lakhia offer.” All Kareena’s attempts at a friendship patch-up fell on deaf, unrelenting Bachchan ears. And at several film events, Abhishek even made his anti-Kapoor stand quite clear.

With so much bad blood between them, perhaps Kareena is just not interested to right the wrongs. She certainly proved this by refusing the Bachchan olive branch at IIFA.

Today, she’s hot enough to do so and even has the hottest industry heroes clamouring to do films with her. And perhaps Abhishek (who really could do with a top heroine or two today) just doesn’t figure in her list anymore.
