According to industry reports, actor Fahadh Faasil is turning producer with the film Iyyobinte Pusthakam to be directed by Amal Neerad. With the movie, the sensational young actor too joins the league of Malayalam stars putting their money back into the industry and potentially reaping bigger returns.

Unlike yesteryear actors who largely confined themselves to their role as performers, the commercial prospects of movie making has been well leveraged by both Mammootty and Mohanlal. They continue to focus on diverse aspects of films – from distribution to post-production.

Dileep turned mega-producer by bringing all the big stars together for his home production Twenty20, while Prithviraj has produced a number of big budget productions including his dream project Urumi.

Actors Sreenivasan and Mukesh too are intelligent investors in film, while Innocent proved his mettle as producer first before turning his attention to acting. Most recently Jayasoorya joined the producer bandwagon investing in Punyalan Agarbatis, which raked in money.

Fahadh’s turn as producer shows much promise as the film is purported to be political and will have a strong cast comprising Jayasoorya and Lal.

For Amal Neerad, the film is important to rebuild his credibility as commercially bankable. He salvaged his artistic and creative credentials, after the debacle of Bachelor Party, with one of the anthologies he directed in 5 Sundarikal. Fahadh’s current box-office appeal could however come to the rescue this time around.
