Islamabad: Claiming that corruption has been largely curbed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under his party's rule, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan on Sunday vowed to make the province best administered with focus on human development and welfare of common man.
He said power is being devolved to village level under the local government system and 30 per cent of development funds will be controlled and spent at village level under this system.
The focus will be on health, education, clean water and grooming the youth in leadership roles.
Addressing a big public meeting in Swabi on Sunday, Imran Khan announced the merger of Awami Jamhoori Ittehad into PTI. Though the group with five members in the provincial assembly is already part of the PTI-led ruling coalition, it's formal merger will bring its members under party discipline giving the PTI requisite strength in the house where it currently has a slender lead.
In his speech Imran avoided attacking the PML-N and PPP who rule in Punjab and Sindh but compared their governments with that of PTI in KP in terms of service to the common man. Police have bee depoliticised while revenue system is being freed from the stranglehold of 'patwari'.
More than 90 per cent school now have proper buildings and other facilities including trained teachers and unified syllabus aimed at gradual elimination of the gap between English and Urdu medium schools, he said.
Fundamental changes are being introduced in the administration of hospitals which will be freed from government control and replaced by autonomous board of directors.
Imran Khan said development funds in the province would be allocated equitably.
He expressed the confidence that the chief minister and other cabinet members and top bureaucrats will continue to live simply and serve the common citizen honestly and with commitment and dedication.
The PTI chief said the debt burden on the country has increased manifold in recent years and pledged that if PTI wins next election, it would rid the country of debt burden and motivate people to voluntarily pay taxes.
