He is poor, eighty-year-old and blind. However, he works day and night. He can be located at the gates of Empress Market, in Karachi, Pakistan. Sometimes he can be spotted shelling peas, at other times selling match box. He earns not more than 300 rupees a day.
Mohammad Hassan has been doing this for the past 35 years, only to pay the loan he took to get his seven children married. He continues to strive as he is still unable to pay the money.
"It is better to work than beg," Express Tribune quoted him saying.
Nicknamed as chota bhai (younger brother), he is famous in the entire market for shelling peas.
Even after going through three surgeries Hassan was unable to get his vision back normally.
As he continues to strive, Hassan has only two dreams- to repay the loan and perform Umrah.
