Om Puri: A life in movies
One of Puri's largest commercial hits, AK-47 (1999) is a Kannada film where he plays as a tough police officer who keeps the city safe from the denizens of the underworld. He rendered his own voice for the Kannada dialogues. (Youtube)
In the same year as AK-47, he also starred in the British comedy film East is East based on the play of the same name. Here he plays as a Pakistani patriarch who tries to cope with his children losing touch of their Pakistani sensibilities and embracing British culture more. (Alamy)
