It was only at 6pm, UAE time, that Indian businessman Dev Bulani breathed a sigh of relief, after undergoing what he calls 12 hours of trauma.
Twenty Indian hostages held at Radisson Blu hotel in Mali's capital Bamako, who were Bulani's close relatives, were rescued.
The External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

Bulani, the owner of a Dubai-based trading company, said he and his 20 relatives in Mali suffered a harrowing experience.
One of the victims, Ajay Chelani, spoke to Khaleej Times over the phone from Mali and said: "Thanks to God ... we're safe now."
The staff of his company was in a house inside the hotel complex. "The terrorists attacked Block A of the complex and my relatives were in Block B. They are safe now," Bulani said.
Bulani added that there were no women and children in the house and all his relatives were men. "I was in constant touch with them. I had been speaking to them from the moment the crisis broke out."
Bulani said: "I can't believe this happened. I've been doing business in Mali for so many years. This is the first time I'm experiencing such a thing. It is so scary."
He is a major manpower supplier and also a known wholesaler.
