Kerala's stray dog menace has reportedly reached new heights and members of the Youth Front of Kerala Congress (Mani) killed around 10 stray dogs and paraded them on poles across the town of Kottayam.
NDTV reports that the men killed the dogs to protest against the increasing number of canines on the streets and incidents of dog bites across the state.
The men also marched to protest against Indian Minister Maneka Gandhi's criticism of the state's approach to the dog menace.
The News Minute reports that, "They took the dog carcasses to the post office and demanded that the dogs be sent in a parcel to the minister. They then left the dead dogs at Kottayam West post office gate with Maneka Gandhi's address duly written on it."
The website went on to add that local media lauded the incident calling it a "protest with a difference" and "murderous dogs have been given capital punishment".
Kerala's dog menace is well known throughout India and in September this year the Hindu reported that, the Supreme Court observed that "compassion for stray dogs cannot hold a society to ransom."
report states that, over 100,000 people have been bitten by dogs in Kerala between 2015 and 2016.
In India the fine for cruelty towards animals is between INR10 to INR100
