The mystery shrouding the death of Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani has deepened with the chemical examination of his viscera finding trace of a deadly insecticide in the body.
The report of the chemical examination conducted at Regional Chemical Examiners Laboratory (RCEL) at Kakkanad in Cochin was handed over to the police on Friday.
The report said the samples of Mani's internal organs contained dangerous level of Chlorophyrifos, an insecticide used primarily to control foliage and soil-borne insect pests on food and feed crops.
Muralidharan Nair, chief chemical examiner at the laboratory, said their examination had also revealed traces of methyl alcohol and ethanol in Mani's body. However, the level of the two substances in the body was very low.
The finding adds a new twist to the row over the death of the versatile actor. Mani had died on March 6 in a private hospital in Cochin. The unexpected death of the 45-year-old actor raised a storm after the presence of methyl alcohol was detected in his blood by the doctors who treated him.
However, the doctors who conducted post-mortem of the body had identified severe liver illness as the cause of the death. The chemical examination report indicates fouls play behind the death.
Some family members of the actor believe the death a homicide. Mani's siblings and wife Nimmi have affirmed that Mani would never commit suicide. Nimmy said that her husband who overcame many challenges in his life boldly can never run away from life like this.
Mani's brother RLV Ramakrishnan points accusing fingers at some of those who were with his brother at his farm house at Padi on the day before he was admitted to the hospital.
He said that it was intriguing that the presence of the insecticide was found only in the blood of his brother even though almost all those who were with his brother on that day had consumed liquor.
He expressed serious doubts about the conduct of his brother's three close aides, Arun, Vipin and Murukan.
They had destroyed all evidences regarding the liquor Mani had consumed after the police registered a case of unnatural death.
He said they rushed to Padi as soon as they heard about the detection of methyl alcohol in the blood of Mani and cleaned the farm house in haste.
Ramakrishnan alleged that the three had been robbing his brother by making him intoxicated. He said that his brother had complained several times about theft of money from the farm house.
They tried to distance his brother from the family members as they considered them an impediment to their activities.
