Airport officials say British Prime Minister David Cameron has arrived in Beirut where he will meet his Lebanese counterpart.
The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media, said Cameron will also visit some Syrian refugees.
Cameron, whose visit was not previously announced, arrived in Beirut early Monday.
His visit comes amid the flow of tens of thousands of Syrian refugees to Europe.
Cameron said earlier this month that Britain will take in up to 20,000 refugees over the next five years.
Lebanon hosts more than 1.1 million Syrian refugees - equivalent to a quarter of the country's entire population.
Syria's crisis began in March 2011 and has killed more than 250,000 people and displaced some 4 million.
