After cricket, movies... Sreesanth could soon make his debut in politics

Trivandrum - The tainted cricketer is actively considering the option of switching over to politics.

 Former Indian fast bowler, S Sreesanth, whose cricketing career was derailed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing scandal, is gearing up to begin a new innings in his life.
The tainted cricketer is actively considering the option of switching over to politics. He is likely to make a foray into politics by contesting the forthcoming assembly election in his home state of Kerala.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is trying hard to end its electoral drought in the southern Indian state in the coming elections, has already offered him a ticket in his home district of Ernakulam.
The cricketer told reporters that he will contest from Tripunithura in Ernakulam district if at all he decides to enter the poll fray. Excise Minister K Babu, who is embroiled in the bar bribery scam, is likely to be the Congress candidate at Tripunithura.
Sreesanth said that he will announce his decision on contesting the poll after consulting his family on Wednesday. Reports from New Delhi said that Sreesanth was approached by the central leadership of the BJP.
Sreesanth, who was hoping to return to the cricketing field after he was discharged by a Delhi court, along with cricketers Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, is now trying his luck in the film field.
The cricketer, who has finished shooting for the Bollywood film Cabaret produced by Pooja Bhatt, has signed the call sheet for a big budget trilingual movie.
The cricketer has also been approached to play a role in a film in his mother tongue of Malayalam. Film industry sources said that Sreesanth, who is busy with his second film, is negotiating dates for the Malayalam movie.
State leaders of the BJP said they were not aware of Sreesanth's plan to contest the election.
State BJP president Kummanam Rajashekharan said that the party would wholeheartedly welcome him if he was ready to contest the poll on the party ticket.
He said that the BJP was trying to field prominent personalities from different walks of life in the coming election, which the party considers crucial for making an inroad into the state. The preliminary list of the party candidates includes several film personalities.
They include prominent film maker Rajasenanan, actors Kollam Thulasi and Bheeman Raghu. The party had tried to rope in action hero Suresh Gopi. However, he opted out of the contest but agreed to campaign for the party candidates.
The BJP, which has been contesting elections in Kerala without allies in the past, has cobbled together a coalition with the help of a few caste and communal organizations and splinter groups of regional parties in the two major fronts.
