Why life is a marathon

Where is more to marathons than running. Or the sheer joy of it (yes, there are those - and I'm in complete awe of them - who feel
running gives one pleasure). Emil Zátopek, the Czech long-distance runner who won three gold medals at the 1952 Summer Olympics, had famously said, "If you want to run, run a mile. If you want to experience a different life, run a marathon." Marathons are all about perseverance, working to a plan, upping your stakes as your plans get translated on the running ground. and they belong to a different league when it comes to life lessons. A friend of mine, an ardent marathon runner (she travels all over the world, spending her own money, to run marathons), says her life has been reinvented. I make fun of her at times - mostly because it irritates me why I always feel she's a far superior human being than I can ever "plan" to be - asking her how she manages to "schedule and implement" everything she does. She tells me life is all about a plan. Running marathons, strangely, is in step with a better life. This week, we profile a few runners who tell us how the marathon has won them the day.
Indian fashion designing duo Sachin and Babi, who have taken the world of couture by storm, tell us what it's like to be selling an Indian label out of Madison Avenue. The original khalnayak (anti-hero), Sanjay Dutt, is out of jail after having served his term. What will his second innings be like? Our Bollywood columnist Khalid Mohamed second guesses. In Travel, Savannah, a sleepy town in coastal Georgia, offers a different glimpse into the US of A. Pursuits brings back some magic into our lives. All this and much more.
Enjoy reading wknd. and have a great weekend!
