Some ways to achieve a common fitness goal - being able to do more situps, pushups or pullups.

Basic strategy
. Do easy variations of exercise; progress to harder ones.
. Then go back to the conventional version to see your improvement. 
More sit ups
Do partial sit ups at first. 
Progress to full sit ups, then add light weights, then do with knees bent, then with legs lifted. 
More push-ups
Start with easy push-ups against a wall or with hands on bench. 
Progress to push-ups with feet raised, one-arm push-ups or push-ups with a hand clap at top. 
More pull-ups
Start with pull-ups with a helper partially lifting you. 
Progress to standard pull-ups, then with hands close together, then with hands spread.
