RAK roads decked up for Eid

Ras Al Khaimah - A number of environment violations has been reported during previous Eid festivities, particularly at the Qawasim Corniche, and Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road vicinity.

The roads, squares and roundabouts of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) have been decorated as part of the Eid Al Fitr celebrations.
The department of public works and services has also deployed more Raqib or monitor patrols to meet the rush during the three-day holiday and curb environment violations (such as littering), mainly on the beaches of the emirate.
A number of environment violations has been reported during previous Eid festivities, particularly at the Qawasim Corniche, and Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road vicinity.
Ahmed Al Hammadi, director-general of the department, warned that a fine of Dh500 shall be slapped against anyone found littering. "Many families have fun and enjoy their time on the beach, but carelessly leave a lot of trash behind."
The Raqib patrols have significantly cut such violations, he added.
Ahmed Al Shehi, head of the services section at the department, said they have increased the number of Raqib patrols from six to 35 since the beginning of this year.
"Staff inspectors spotted 1,500 environmental violations, including 45 fishing breaches, this year so far."
"The department has decorated all the roads, squares, intersections and public parks of the emirate," added Al Hammadi,
He said that a specialised company has been contracted to do decoration works, particularly at the main roundabouts, intersections and roads of the emirate.
"The roads of Shaikh Mohammed bin Salem, Etihad, and Al Qarm, as well as some roads at the Dheit and Rams areas have been decorated. These are apart from Saqr Park which has been equipped with new toys and green areas." He said the department has also completed maintenance work of all the Musallas in the emirate. "All the Musallas have been cleaned and equipped with due audio systems in collaboration with the general authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowment."
