Sharjah – The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) announced the completion and commissioning of the new 132 KV Moeileh Substation at the Industrial Area 13.
The new substation built at Dh100 million cost is expected to achieve a better network stability and reliable power supply in the emirate, meet the projected surge in power demand and provide more flexibility in load dispatching at the relevant areas.
It will remarkably mitigate the pressure on the distribution and transmission network and contribute in improving the efficiency of the power system to enable Sewa to meet the ever-growing demand for power particularly in newly developed areas. Sewa spares no effort in continuing the development and modernisation process as per its commitment to provide best quality services to satisfaction of the customers.
Dr Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of Sewa, pointed out that the construction of 132 KV Moeileh Substation comes in line with the directive from His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan bin Mohamned Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to keep strengthening our infrastructure and service facilities as per the highest international standards. It is a part of Sewa’s initiatives to meet the requirements for electrical power in the Emirate of Sharjah and reinforce the power distribution and transmission networks.
He added that the execution of the new substation comes in line with the development expansion programme initiated by Sewa to meet the requirements of the on-going economical, industrial and constructional boom in the emirate and secure uninterrupted and reliable services of electricity, water and natural gas. He noted that as per Sewa forecasts, the growth rate of power demand in Sharjah is substantially increasing each year.
Al Leem added that Sewa strives for high quality and security standards of power networking operations and raise the efficiency of the networks and substation to meet the ever growing power demand.
The Moeileh Substation, which was constructed in cooperation with Siemens, will remarkably mitigate the pressure on the distribution and transmission network and contribute in raising and improving the efficiency of the power system.
The new substation will mitigate the load pressure in Moeileh, University City, Industrial area No 17 and 15 and Al Nooff. It will also serve another surrounding areas including Al Tarfana and Industrial areas 10, 11, 12 and 13.
The Chairman announced that Sewa under the 2015 Strategic Plan is in process to execute several ambitious projects to change the old distribution and transmission networks with the-state-of-art systems as well as construction of new 132 and 33 KV substations to cope with the increasing power demand.
He pointed out that the strategy adopted by Sewa emphasises on meeting the requirements of the development process in Sharjah, diversifying and exploring energy sources, making use of all available resources, improving the efficiency and productivity and maintaining the environment. The authority is committed to use the best technological solutions that raise the level of productivity and performance and in the same time, minimise the carbon emissions in line with the emirate’s policy of sustainability. -afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
