Most accidents in UAE caused by Pakistanis

Sharjah - Sharjah to educate Asians on how to 'drive safely'.

The Sharjah Traffic and Patrol Department, on Wednesday, launched safety awareness campaigns targeting Asian nationals to reduce the number of deaths caused by accidents in the emirate.
The awareness will use Asian media to spread the message of traffic safety. Addressing the Press conference attended by more than 20 media representatives of establishments from India, Pakistan and other Asian nationalities, a top official of the traffic police said the aim of the campaign is to reduce the number of deaths from accidents among Asians, because death and serious injuries among Asian nationals are very high.
Pakistanis topped the list of causing traffic accidents in 2016, which witnessed the death of 32 from the same country. Next in the list came 30 Indians, 23 Emiratis, 13 Bangladeshi, and 3 Filipinos. "This is attributed to the lack of awareness among these communities, and as police it's our responsibility to spread awareness among and educate them about the safety rules," he said.
According to the official, current statistics prove that the human element is the primary culprit behind each accident and 85 per cent of the total accidents occurred due to human error.

Most accidents happened due to over-speeding, distractions, entering the road without ensuring safety, driving in the opposite direction, crossing red-lights, improper method of changing of lanes and failing to maintain enough space between vehicles.
Speeding and reckless driving
Most fatal accidents are caused by speeding and reckless driving which increases the risk of accidents by 90 per cent. Violators will face hefty fines of Dh2,000, 12 black points, and 30 days' confiscation of the car.
Jumping the red light is another major cause of accidents. A recent statistic shows that many jumped the red-light because they don't slowdown when they see the yellow light. The fine for jumping the red-light is Dh800, 8 black points, and confiscation of the car for 15 days.
The official added that the police have lunched a number of awareness campaigns to reduce run-over accidents. Pedestrians crossing from undesignated areas will have to pay fine of Dh200. In case a driver fails to give way to pedestrians crossing, he will be slapped with Dh500 fine and will get six black points.
Talking on the phone while driving will attract a fine of Dh200 and four black points.
