Police received a call at 5am from the neighbours, who heard the loud sound of the explosion, triggering panic.
Police patrols, civil defence personnel, and an ambulance rushed to the site where they found the man lying unconscious amid the debris of the kitchen wall. The items from the shelves had also fallen on his head, causing severe injuries to his skull and other parts of the body.
The injured man -- identified as S.A.N -- was taken to Al Kuwaiti hospital immediately. He has been admitted in the hospital's ICU.
Fire experts from Sharjah Police (forensic laboratory) have launched an intensified investigation to ascertain the cause of the blast.
The case has been referred to Al Gharb police station for further probe and follow-up.
