In response to a rumor circulating about narcotics found in children's pop candy, Dubai Municipality officials confirmed that the product is not registered under the civic body's departments.
Hearing people's concerns, the Food Safety Department sent out inspection teams to the markets and other points of sale of food products, but could not yet find the candy.
Officials did not deny that the candy might have made its way to markets illegally. People are urged to report it if found.
"Once found, samples of the candy will be sent to labs for inspections. If narcotics were detected, it will be sent to the police," a senior official told Khaleej Times.
The official added that the municipality deals with the nutritional part of food products, ensuring that the product's label accurately represents the ingredients.

"There have been comments written on the candy's label. Since the candy is not registered, we have to ensure that that ingredients mentioned on the label is transparent and does not mention harmful products."
The official clarification comes within the "Confirmed News" initiative launched on Dubai Municipality portal, which aims to reduce the circulation of rumors that are spread through the means of social media and to correct false news and malicious rumors and address them quickly. sherouk@khaleejtimes.com
