The Al Raqaib Heritage Forest Park in Ajman, being constructed on a one million square metre-area, is nearing its opening date and is set to receive visitors before October.
Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Sharjah Municipality and Planning Department, who oversaw the quick completion of the project, confirms that this park will reflect the original heritage of Ajman and the UAE's long-standing identity.
The park will feature 5,000 plant species, such as Ghaf, Marrak, Rak, Sidr and Nakheel. Al Nuaimi explained that the municipality was keen to establish this important project to preserve the region's trees, which are natural wealth that should be preserved.
Al Nauimi noted that Ajman has made great strides in transforming itself into one of the world's greenest cities. The emirate is keen to increase number of parks with different flora species and also expand its green areas.
The park is set in the Al Raqaib area, which is typically characterised by the presence of Al Ghaf trees, cedars, palms and natural trees. "The Municipality is keen to preserve this valuable wealth and the park facilities combine simplicity, beauty, heritage and urban design to preserve the emirate's original heritage."
The park will be also function as an entertainment resort for families and visitors from inside and outside the emirate, who can enjoy a healthy and clean environment and learn about the the UAE's natural heritage, customs, traditions and old ways of life.
Marwan Obeid Al Muhairi, director of projects at Ajman Municipality, said that the distinctive park provides comprehensive services to residents, visitors and tourists.
