Ajman to hold International Environment Conference

Ajman Municipality and Planning Department (AMPD) on Wednesday unveiled details of the 4th Ajman International Environment Conference (AIEC 2016) under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman.
AIEC 2016 will be held under the theme "Smart Cities and Green Innovation"
Addressing press conference, Khalid Mueen Al Hosani, Head of the Organizing Committee of the conference said that  the 4th edition of the conference will take place from March 2to March 3 at the Shaikh Zayed Center for Conferences and Exhibitions at the Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Ajman. The conference and exhibition are expected to attract numerous experts and professionals in environment, water and energy from all over the world.
He added  that the  previous editions of  the conference had helped increase the population growth and expand the economic activities in the emirate of Ajman, after the reduction of the environmental pollution and waste, which undermine the quality of life and wellbeing in modern cities.
"We selected "Smart Cities and Green Innovation" as a theme of the 4th edition of the conference to demonstrate our eagerness to accelerate the adoption of effective, cutting-edge and sustainable methods that ensure a change is made in the habits and practices to establish smart cities where environment and natural resources are conserved for a brighter tomorrow for our future generation."
 Al Hosani explained that the opening ceremony will be attended by His Highness Shaikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman and other dignitaries and senior officials including His Highness Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department and Chairman of the Conference. "The opening ceremony will include a speech by His Excellency Minister of Environment and Water, and a documentary film about the three previous editions of the conference", he added.
Al Hosani stressed that the Ajman International Environment Conference aims to effectively contribute to supporting and achieving the objectives of the Ajman Vision 2021, launched by Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Ajman Executive Council.
The Ajman Vision 2021 aims to turn the emirate into an investment destination and to achieve sustainable development, so as to enhance the well-being and happiness of its citizens and residents. The emirate seeks to attract investments in green economy and sustainable development sectors, as well as to offer facilities and incentives to investors in the industries.
"The theme of the fourth edition of the Ajman International Environment Conference reflects nationwide efforts - across the UAE - to build a sustainable economy that can cope with population growth and urban expansion," added Hosani.
The conference sessions:
Al Hosani briefed the attendees on the two-day panel sessions. The first session will be chaired by Terrence Cooke, Director of Business Development, Science Target Inc., Canada, and will include four keynote addresses. The first one will address "the Local Practices as Best Practices: "Heritage in Development in Ajman, the United Arab Emirates, the Middle East, and Beyond" by Prof.  Joseph Hobbs, Head of AIEC2016 Scientific Committee, Department of Geography, Director, Vietnam Institute, University of Missouri, United States of America. The second keynote address will discuss "The Green Infrastructure: Assessment of Tree Damage to Urban Structures" by Prof. Miklas Scholz, Chair in Civil Engineering, University of Salford, United Kingdom.
In the third keynote address, Prof. Bryan Karney, Associate Dean and Chair, Division of Environmental Engineering & Energy Systems - Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, University of Toronto, Canada will highlight the topic of "Seeking a Sea Change Conceptualizing Urban Water Supply Systems". This will be followed by a keynote address titled "Urban Design towards Smart Low Carbon Precincts", by Prof. Steffen Lehmann, Professor of Sustainable Architecture, Founding Director, s_Lab (Sydney - Berlin), The University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom.
 
Al Hosani clarified that the second session will present the Best Practices in the UAE, and will be chaired by Prof.  Joseph Hobbs. Topics of the second session will include "A Successful Implementation of Smart Sewerage Infrastructure in Ajman", "Towards Safer UAE Roads", "Drone Applications for Environmental Monitoring in Urban Spaces", "Use of Wetlands in Sharjah" and "Sustainability is Pure Profit - Hotel Point of View".
The third session will address the "Green Infrastructure" topic, and will be chaired by Prof. Miklas Scholz. The session will cover the following topics: "Solar Panel and Renewable Energy in Mexico Development and Outlook for Photovoltaic", "Understanding the Role of Green Infrastructure (GI) in Tackling Climate Change in today's World", "Adoption of Green Practices in Industrial Buildings", "Effect of New Ellipse Design on the Performance Enhancement of PV/T Collector", "A Case Study of Kosofe Local Government, Nigeria" and "the Urgent Necessity to Redouble Renewable Energy Output".
 Al Hosani said that a committee will develop recommendations during the sessions. He added that some sessions will be broadcast live on the department social media channels (Telegram and Youtube) to be accessible to all the international audience, particularly to those interested in environmental issues.
