The Abu Dhabi City Municipality on Wednesday confirmed that their field inspections in residential neighborhoods and public areas resulted in 40 warnings and 55 fines against offenders.
"Such malpractices damage public property and hurt the urban outlook of the city," according to a statement issued by the Municipality.
The Municipality pointed out that these campaigns were carried out in accordance with Decree No. (2) / 2012 - regarding the preservation of the overall appearance of the city, general health and public tranquillity in Abu Dhabi.
"Such campaigns are intended to curtail bicycles chained to light poles in cooperation with the Community Police in Abu Dhabi Police and Sahara Transport Company," the Municipality added.
"The civic body strives to spot and curtail all eyesores to maintain a civil appearance of the city in line with its vision and strategy aimed at enhancing the quality of life in the emirate of Abu Dhabi."
According to the Municipality, before slapping fines, the municipal inspectors serve a three-day warning to the violator, and if the violator fails to remove the bicycles from the light poles within the grace period, a fine of Dh3,000 is issued, besides impounding the bicycle at the owner's expense.
Regarding the bicycle impounding procedures, the owner must check in at the impoundment area, pay the towing service charges carried out by Sahara Transport Company - before paying the reconciliation charges.
