The 22-bridge Zabeel Trade Centre bridge project, which cost Dh719.4 million to complete, will open this Tuesday, the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has said.
RTA chairman Mattar Al Tayer said the project encompassed the construction of 22 bridges of precast concrete units forming a corridor spanning 4,250 metres, comprising two lanes in each direction, along with a concrete ramp extending 120 metres — all to serve the traffic outbound to Al Maktoum Bridge.
“The project enables direct traffic movement from Al Khail Road 1 near the Dubai World Trade Centre in the direction of Shaikh Rashid Road, and from there to Al Garhoud and Al Maktoum Bridges, as well as Oud Metha Road. Similarly it also provides direct traffic flow the other way round from Shaikh Rashid Road to Al Khail Road 1 and from there to the Parallel Roads passing across Burj Khalifa district,” Al Tayer said.
The RTA has also completed the construction of a foot-bridge near the World Trade Centre stretching 92 metres and fitted with two electrical lifts on each side to accommodate the large number of visitors. The project opening coincides with the celebrations of the UAE’s 42nd National Day.
“The Zabeel Trade Centre bridge project is one of the largest and most important phases of the Parallel Roads Project, which is one of the biggest road projects currently undertaken by the RTA aimed at linking the Western Parallel Road with the Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Road and Al Khail Road 1, at the front of the World Trade Centre. The project also serves the traffic in the opposite direction of Al Khail Road 1 heading towards Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud Bridges as well as the Dubai-Al Ain Road. It also includes improvements in signalised junctions at the World Trade Centre in addition to infrastructure and lighting works,” added Al Tayer.
