Starting tomorrow, the Public Transport Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will launch three new public bus routes in Dubai to back up metro stations and to meet the rising demand for mass transit.

The move comes in response to the rise of public bus ridership in the first half of 2014 to 67.5 million riders compared to 59.1 million during the same period last year. The public bus occupancy also improved by eight per cent to clock 42.6 per cent. The waiting time of the metro feeder services as well as all public buses has been reduced to seven minutes.

Eisa Al Hashimi, director of Planning and Business Development, Public Transport Agency, said the three new routes will start from bus stations in Al Nahda, Stadium and The Dubai Mall heading to different destinations in Dubai.

The first route, F23, is a metro station feeder service that will start from Al Nahda and head towards the International City with a service frequency of eight, 10 and 15 minutes during peak times using double decker buses directed from Al Awir Bus Depot.

The second route, Bus 23, will start from the Stadium Metro Station and head towards Al Nahda station with a service frequency of 20 minutes during peak times using double decker buses directed from Al Awir Bus Depot. Bus 28, the third route, will start from The Dubai Mall and head to Lamcy Plaza with a service frequency of 20 minutes during peak times using standard buses directed from Al Rowaya Bus Depot.

He said timetables of routes F46, F48, 43, 367, and F12 will be revised on Saturdays, while routes 4, 11A, 44, 365, 366, F3, F5, and F10 will be modified to include Rashidiya Metro Station. Routes E307, 88, C19, and 22 will be modified to include Deira City Centre Metro Station. Route F53 at the Industrial City will be extended to Workers Village, while route F22 will be modified at Al Nahda. Route 22 will be served by double decker buses, while routes F42 and 42 will be cancelled.
