The traffic department at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police said in a statement that a campaign had been launched in the oasis city and its suburbs to make roads safer.

“The campaign focuses on wrong overtaking that poses a serious hazard to motorcyclists and all road users,” said Head of Al Ain Traffic Section Captain Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi.

He said the Traffic and Patrols Directorate would begin imposing penalties on all types of motorcycles that overtook between vehicles at signals and intersections, causing traffic accidents.

Captain Rashid Mohammed Al Shamsi, Acting Manager of Public Relations at the department, said officers had been distributing awareness brochures to motorcyclists urging them to maintain lane discipline, and avoid changing lanes suddenly or trying to enter other vehicles’ lanes.
