Dubai forum seeks to better urban transport

To groom leaders in the transport sector and boost capabilities, the Mena Centre for Transport Excellence is hosting a week-long forum in Dubai.

Titled “Preparing Leaders of Urban Transport Planning Forum”, the event began on Saturday at the Meydan Hotel.

Attended by urban planning experts from the region and farther, the forum plays a role in establishing an advanced mass transit network that meets demographic, economic and urban growth requirements.

Abdul Aziz Malik, chairman of the higher organising committee at the centre, presented a paper on the evolution of urban transport in the Dubai. It provided an insight into the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) governance model, the integrated transport plan in Dubai, key components of short-term projects and success factors.

Malik highlighted the importance of the demographic aspect for establishing a solid network of public transport in Dubai, the business hub of the UAE. The forum is being supported by the RTA and international organisations like the World Bank.
