The Spanish second seed claimed his seventh Grand Slam title without dropping a set and also gained revenge on the man who sent him crashing to his only French Open career defeat last year.

Nadal, who now stands just one French Open title behind the all-time record of six won by Bjorn Borg, will also reclaim the world number spot from Roger Federer when the new rankings are released on Monday.
