Apple in no hurry to release iPad3

NEW YORK - Many a king has buckled under the weight of the crown, but one analyst says Apple, the undisputed ruler of the tablet market, has nothing to worry about.

That is why JP Morgan’s Mark Moskowitz wrote that the iPad 3, rumored to be released anywhere from this fall to early next year, will not debut until some time next year. His report has been circulated by many technology news outlets such as AllThingsD and PC Magazine.

“In recent months, there has been rising investor speculation that a new iPad 3 would be launched for the holiday season. Our latest research continues to indicate that there is no such device slated for production this year, Moskowitz wrote.

Amazon is all but assured to release its much ballyhooed tablet this fall in what many see as the first substantial challenge to Apple’s dominance of the market. Apple holds a 68.3 percent market share, according to International Data Corporation.

But Moskowitz sees little danger for Apple in waiting to release the third iteration of its popular tablet, especially because the iPad 2 has only been out since March.

“In our view, Apple should be in no rush,” he wrote. “The other tablet entrants have stumbled so far, and that trend-line could persist deep into 2012.”

Those stumblers include HP, whose TouchPad has recently surged in popularity after its discontinuation lowered the price to $99. R
