Mumbai Indians fast bowler Trent Boult has said that he wants to go up against the big players and is looking forward to the tussle against the big-hitting Andre Russell.
Mumbai Indians, the defending champions of the IPL, take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in their second match at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday night.
Rohit Sharma's side lost the tournament opener against the Chennai Super Kings and it was the eighth time that they had suffered defeat in the first game, a losing streak stretching back to 2013.
And ahead of the second match against KKR, Boult said he was looking to take on the West Indian Russell, nicknamed 'Dre Russ.'
"I think he's one of the most destructive batsmen in the game at the moment and therein lies the challenge," said Boult.
"That's personally why I play the game. I've probably been quoted before, I like to take on the big players and look to take a wicket. So, I will be looking forward to that challenge. I'm sure I will face it at some stage in this tournament but he's a very exciting player so we need to research about him and make sure we are on the ball," added the Kiwi, who took one for 23 against CSK.
The 31-year-old also believed that teammate and fellow fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will bounce back after an off-colour opening game against CSK. Bumrah went for runs, conceding 43 runs in his four overs, taking one wicket.
"He's a world class bowler. I know he's worked very, very hard the last couple of days to find that rhythm and I'm 100 percent sure he's going to be on the mark over the next coming games. He's a big player for us, a very important bowler and I'm sure he will see him bounce back very nicely," he added.
Boult, who has rich experience in the IPL, having played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Capitals, said that Mumbai have worked on some of the areas following the first match.
"From my point of view, personally, coming off a big winter in New Zealand obviously with lockdowns and isolations and stuff like that, I haven't played cricket in probably six months. So, I was pretty happy with the way it came out. But I think it is a good place to start from.
"I think we can tighten up in a couple of small areas with accuracy and execution and that is what we will look to do over the next couple of games," Boult said.
