With the Dubai Food Festival up and running, here are a few dates you have to circle
AS WELL AS an excuse for filling your boots with fine fare, Dubai Food Festival is also an opportunity for culinary growth and exploration. The city-wide event, on until April 17, not only offers the chance to sample some of the most exclusive restaurants in town for a set price, it encompasses a number of workshops, gatherings, talks and even movies centering on our favourite pastime: eating. Here are the six foodie experiences for which we are most looking forward. PLATINUM CLASS. Taking place at a tranquil oasis, the Royal Desert Retreat Fine Dining Experience with Platinum Heritage Desert Safaris will take you on an immersive culinary journey. Be welcomed with canapés and sparkling date juice as you enjoy the stunning sunset views before being accommodated in your own private cabana, after which your culinary adventure begins under the stars. The resident chef has created a menu featuring the ingredient of this year’s festival: the date, available every Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the duration of DFF. PAELLA WORKSHOP. Mmm, me gusta mucho! Say ‘hola’ to visiting paella master and renowned Valencian chef, Vicente Rioja, as he collaborates with BOCA’s Chef Matthijs Stinnissen to create paella recipes that pay tribute to local ingredients and flavours from the UAE. The DIFC venue will host a series of paella master classes and a special dinner with Vicente who is head chef and owner of Restaurant Rioja de Benisanó, a historic restaurant established in 1924. Everything will be held on April 4, 5 and 7.
FRENCH FANCY. World-famous celebrity chef Daniel Boulud is hosting an exclusive virtual master class on Thursday, April 8 at 7pm Dubai time. Offering fresh and delicious seasonal produce delivered right to your doorstep, the personalised session will teach you the nuances of simple French cooking. Chef Daniel Boulud will tune-in live from New York and take you on a step-by-step journey on how to prepare dishes such as Trout Grenobloise, a French bistro classic. The virtual meeting is priced at Dh395 per person, which includes the box of delivered ingredients. The 60-minute experience concludes with an interactive 10-minutes Q&A session with the chef. MOVIE MAGIC. Head to the idyllic Al Barrari for A Night Under the Stars in the NASAB Amphitheatre where you can graze on a luxury picnic basket filled with special items whilst watching a screening of The Hundred Foot Journey, a foodie classic. This is on Tuesday and Wednesday.
FOUR-HANDS DINNER. This Wednesday, a four-hands dinner with Chef Cristian Goya and Chef Akmal Anuar is taking place. This exclusive, one-night collaboration between two of Dubai’s most exciting cooks will take place at KAYTO, Jumeirah’s cool Nikkei restaurant at Jumeirah Al Naseem.
