The Dubai Metro marked its 11th birthday in style on Wednesday, with a Dubai Executive Council meeting being held at its newest station. The meeting - chaired by Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum - was held at the Expo station - the terminal station of Route 2020.

Sheikh Hamdan said the Metro is a translation of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, "to cement Dubai as an international city and a hub for modern lifestyle".
"Eleven years ago, we launched the Dubai Metro, which has been a witness to the distinctive development journey of the city. The Metro was the central piece of Dubai's urban boom and made it a city on the move. It highlights Dubai's strategy in facing challenges through proactive practical solutions," Sheikh Hamdan said.
