Dubai sees 16,099 phone driving violations in under 3 months

Over the past three months, 16,099 violations of using mobile phone while driving were recorded in the emirate, according to Dubai Police. Last year, the number of violations during the same period was 16,393 while total violations were 600,365.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director-general of traffic department at Dubai Police, urged the motorists to adhere to traffic rules and avoid anything that might distract them while driving such as talking over the mobile phones, text messaging or using social media and watching videos. He reminded the drivers that they must show a sense of responsibility on the road, and not drive in any recklessness manner that may jeopardise their lives as well as others. He added that using mobile phones while driving it poses risk to all road users, not just the motorists.
Brig Al Mazroui noted that January witnessed 5,671 mobile phone violations against 5,471 during the same period last year. In February, 5,152 violations were recorded compared to last year's 5,247 and in March 5,276 against last March's 5,675.
He also said that the police will intensify monitoring those people who do not abide by the rules in order to achieve the highest level traffic safety for all road users.
