Fireworks display on New Year's Eve are to be carried out not just at Sheikh Zayed Festival and Yas Island but at two more venues as well. The Corniche and Al Maryah Island too will light up the skies on December 31.

To avoid crowding at the most popular party spot – the Corniche, the firework show - extending more than 1.2km in distance - will be telecasted live on Abu Dhabi TV, Emarat TV, and UAE_BARQ’s official Instagram page.

There is still no word on the live-telecast for the two record-breaking attempts with a 35-minute firework show at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba.

Ali Al Shaiba, executive director of tourism and marketing, department of culture and tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), said the Capital is ready to bid goodbye to 2020 and welcome 2021.

“2020 has been a truly extraordinary year that presented organisations worldwide with several challenges, and most importantly, with the opportunity to innovate. Despite the restrictions to public mobility, our community and partners in Abu Dhabi have shown exceptional commitment, creativity and cooperation which have been critical in helping us navigate the complexities with greater ease. As we head into a new year, we are optimistic about the future and sincerely wish our community, partners and people around the world have a great year ahead.”

The Abu Dhabi Corniche show will last for five minutes and will be overseen by more than 20 experts. They spent over 100 hours to put the show together.

The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi has detailed its preparations in this video:
