A top official from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship in Abu Dhabi said that the amnesty process has been revised and now missions will be handling most categories of cases.
An official at Shahama centre said that there were new guidelines in place to deal with the huge rush.
"The UAE is trying to help every amnesty seeker become a legal resident. If there is anyone who does not have an Emirates ID, then those people, instead of coming to amnesty centre in Shahama can visit their respective embassies. The embassy can collect the available details. Then an embassy representative can come to us with details like name, mobile number, passport number and ID details of the amnesty seekers. We will cross check those details in our system. We will then send a message to the phone number of the amnesty seeker with details like if they have to visit Tasheel and pay for exit papers," the official said and added that in this way the amnesty seeker would not have to approach the centres.
The official said that the person needs to have at least one identity card to ascertain their genuineness.
"We just want a proof. Even a health card will do. We can then check in our system and get all the details."
The official noted that most amnesty seekers who came to the centre were from Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the UAE, Muhammad Imran said that the embassy representative has been briefed about the new guidelines. "We have made a special team to look into the matter," Imran said.

Who needs to visit Shahama

From now onwards only a few categories of amnesty seekers need to come to Shahama centre, this includes those who have entered the UAE in a legal way, have their passport and ID cards but also have fines. Instances like when someone has come to the UAE on visit visa and has overstayed. Such cases can come to amnesty centres and do the biometric verification.
Those who have entered the country legally but haven't done their medical tests or the biometric verification need to visit the Shahama centre. And those who have lost their passports also need to visit the centre.
