Workers, people of determination, orphans and seniors were the guests of honour at the recent Zayed Humanitarian Work Day celebrations at the Dubai Police.
It was a day of giving - and remembering how the UAE's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, lived a life for others. The General Department of Protective Security and Emergency of the Dubai Police organised the gathering that was held at Shabab Al Ahli Club, Dubai.
Coinciding with the anniversary of the founder's passing, Zayed Humanitarian Work Day is when "we show how the leader's generosity has lived on through his people and throughout the world", said Major-General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, director-general of the department of protective security and emergency at the Dubai Police.
"This day is an unforgettable day that urges us to be inspired to continue the act of humanitarian giving," Maj-Gen Al Ghaithi added.
Government entities such as the Ministry of Education, private firms, community departments and several organisations worked together to bring joy to their guests for the day - from workers and people of determination to orphans and seniors. ABBC Foundation was the main sponsor of the event, and among the participating groups were the Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, Community Development Authority Dakhar, Scout Commissioner and the Service Community Department at Shabab Al Ahli Club.
Zayed Humanitarian Work Day has become an annual platform for charitable initiatives, "thanks to the country's leaders who inspire us every day to work for others and to look at the suffering of people around us", Maj-Gen Al Ghaithi said.
"Realising that what afflicts mankind afflicts us all will make the world a better place," he said.
Suresh Kannan, marketing manager at ABBC Foundation, said their participation in the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day event is "a reflection of the vision of Sheikh Zayed and the duty of the company to serve the community in the UAE".
