A new power station with the capacity of 150 MVA  has been opened at Al Dahan,Mohammed Saleh, Director-General of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, (Fewa) said. The Dh76 million station will meet the needs of people in Al Dafan, Al Khor, and Khuzam
Fewa is also set to open three new power stations at Shaikh Khalifa Hospital, Al Dheit and Shaml areas this February, he said.
The total cost of these with due power cables stand at Dh100 million, he added. The second station will cover Al Dheit area while the third will serve Shaml area to the north of the emirate, Saleh pointed out.
"Fewa is building four other stations at Ghalila, Al Rams, Al Rifa, and Al Hamraniya areas to meet the requirements of the ongoing and planned projects in the emirate."
Saleh added that Fewa has nothing to do with any blackout within the emirate. "Renewing or replacing the old or damaged lamp posts is the responsibility of the local government."
However, Fewa has the technical capability, material, and sufficient plans to handle the same, he pointed out. "Lack of coordination with the bodies concerned in the emirate hampers this.
Saleh noted that Fewa plans to replace old and damaged lamp posts, yet it all depends on the RAK Municipality to send the routes where these posts need to be replaced.
"We are also coordinating with specialised companies to replace all lights with power saving LEDs."
