The exhibition, entitled Messages Dances, features a rich selection of the artist's works that use traditional Arabic motifs and symbols to communicate profound messages.

The event is part of various activities marking the Dubai Media City's third anniversary and will run till January 27 at the exhibition area in the lobby of the DMC Building No.2. The exhibition is also part of the Dubai Shopping Festival.

Ms Millns, who has travelled extensively across the Arab peninsula and North Africa during the last 20 years, has been artistically inspired by the cultural traditions of these regions.

In fact, her works owe a great deal to the indigenous people of the region with whom she has interacted closely.

"We are very happy to present the artistic works of Patricia Millns to art lovers in Dubai," said Abdulhamid Juma, CEO of Dubai Media City, adding that the DMC is a fitting venue for exhibiting Millns' works that have evolved out of her deep interaction with Arab culture and tradition.

Ms Millns' works draw extensively from Arab atmosphere and include dancing costumes featuring complex moving patterns that convey complex multi-layered messages. "The dancer and the message and the art become one and lead the viewer beyond this surface illusion," Ms Millns said.

"I am strongly influenced by Islamic architecture's use of repeated thematic elements to create a sense of light and inner calm. I adopt motifs that can be seen as almost meditative in their repetition and their influence on the viewer," she elaborated.

The motifs used by the artist are taken from a fixed cultural reality and are extended by their multiplicity and repetition to form a sign system that is re-interpreted as a linguistic unit. This unit does not rely on words to communicate or represent a complex reality.

From the aesthetic external appearance to the deeper linguistic quality of the signs, the innumerable spatial patterns lead the viewer to a deeper visual awareness of the spiritual level beyond. Patricia was awarded membership of the Alliance of Women Artists in 1995 and the International Association of the Professional Artists (Unesco) in 1999.
