Fujairah population up by 5.5 per cent

The population of Fujairah went up by 5.5 per cent in 2013 as compared to 2012, according to the Fujairah Statistics Centre. The statistical yearbook recently issued by the centre reveals that the population of the emirate stood at 192,190 last year as compared with 182,023 the preceding year.

An increase of 6,773 was also recorded in the number of males in 2013 as compared to the preceding year.

The yearbook also states that the number of births last year rose to 3,896, comprising 2,015 males and 1,881 females, as against 3,479 births in 2012. The number of deaths last year touched 289 as compared to 291 in 2012.

Dr Ibrahim Saad, Director of the Fujairah Statistics Centre, said the yearbook contains 15 sections on population, demographic, construction and building, labour, education, culture, social statistics, health, agriculture. The sections also contain industry, internal and external trade, transport, communications, tourism and environment.

Dr Saad paid tribute to all federal and local government departments, public and private institutions for their cooperation with the centre in the compilation of the yearbook.
