The Mall of Emirates is hosting live traditional musical performances by artistes from around the world. From drumbeats of North Africa to the Indian sitar tunes of Baluji Shrivastav, performance by Iranian dance troupe Oltar to jazz and rap performance by Algerian superstar Abdelkader Saadoun, the mall is enchanting its audiences. The shows are 20-minute long and conducted thrice daily after 9.45pm. The mall will be open from 10am to 1am throughout Ramadan. The Majid Al Futtaim Group (MAF) is organising the ‘Make a Difference This Ramadan’.

The group’s malls like the Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre, Sharjah City Centre and Ajman City Centre have joined hands with local charitable organisations such as the UAE Red Crescent Society, Al Ihsan Medical Complex and EnviroFone for generating donations of specific items.

Items like eyeglasses or sunglasses, clothes, mobile phones and books, thus collected, will be distributed by the charity organisations to various needy people in the UAE and outside. The malls have set up special collection boxes on their premises where visitors could drop their donations.

In return, the malls give customers a ‘Special Offer’ coupon that is related to the item they donate. For example, a customer who donates a used mobile phone will receive a coupon offering a discount at any of the participating electronics retail outlet.

The visitors of Dubai Outlet Mall during the season are given prizes with each and every purchase made. The mall is organising iftars with traditional coffee and dates in Arabic tents. “We have extended our trading hours from 10am to 12 midnight, seven days a week during Ramadan.” said Vishal Mahajan, director of Dubai Outlet Mall. Sahara Centre in Sharjah is holding a ‘Spreading the light of happiness’ campaign. The campaign includes identification of about 30 to 40 wishes from needy children, enclosed in an envelope and placed in the promotion area, on the first level in the mall.

On picking up an envelope and fulfilling the wish, every customer will be given a lit lantern that will be later mounted on a crescent-shaped board placed near the donation area. The Chinese pavilion of the mall has been transformed into a majlis, where various cultural activities are conducted. Shoppers will be treated to dates and labaan, and traditional food during iftars. Marc Jones, Marketing Manager of Ibn Battuta Mall, said: “We are delighted to offer an exciting array of authentic activities and movie classics for our valued customers, whether local, expatriate residents or tourists.”
